First, I want to say that Facebook collects data from multiple platforms about its users, thus it is not that easy to restrict access to your data. You might do it in Facebook, but forget to remove or apply the same restrictions while using other apps (Instagram, WhatsApp), this way the data will be passed to Facebook anyway.

Besides, Facebook says it uses your data to show relevant ads and keep you safe; if someone logs in into your account from a country you're not usually in, Facebook can flag the activity as suspicious and send you push notifications. This way Facebook makes users share their data by promising it will be secured. As you know, it was not the case with the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

You always have to compromise something to get something else in return.
